Immigration, Human Capital Formation and Endogenous Economic Growth

چکیده
Immigration, Human Capital Formation and Endogenous Economic Growth* Census data from international sources covering 77% of the world’s migrant population indicate that the skill composition of migrants in major destination countries, including the US, has been rising over the last four decades. Moreover, the population share of skilled migrants has been approaching or exceeding that of skilled natives. We offer theoretical propositions and empirical tests consistent with these trends via a general-equilibrium model of endogenous growth where human capital, population, income growth and distribution, and migration trends are endogenous. We derive new insights about the impact of migration on long-term income growth and distribution, and the net benefits to natives in both destination and source countries. Estimating Optimum Value of Investment and Human Capital in the R&D Sector of Iran Using an Augmented Endogenous Growth Model
This article intends to estimate the optimal value of investment and human capital in R&D sector of Iranian economy using an augmented endogenous growth model. To do so, two issues have been studied. First, an endogenous growth model has been extended to include investment in R&D as an independent variable. In the framework of this model, in order to determine the optimal value of investment an...
متن کاملOptimal Government Spending and Taxation in Three-Sector Endogenous Growth Model-Case Iran
The recent literature on taxation and growth has stressed the optimality of a zero long-run taxation on all accumulative factors of production. For a given path of government spending, the optimal tax plan requires the government to build up a positive stock of public wealth in the short run in the long-run, government spending can be financed with the income accruing from the management of the...
متن کاملTest of Endogenous Growth Theory via Technological Spillover Effects of International Capital Good Flows
This paper aims to test endogenous growth models based on technology spillovers. So far similar models have tested the effects of total physical capital formation and international capital goods flows on long-run economic growth. We exploited VAR models and explored that imported machinery and equipment has no long-run growth effects. However, in the short-run, growth effects appeared in most o...

Human Capital Formation, Life Expectancy and the Process of Economic Development This paper presents a microfounded theory of long-term development. We model the interplay between economic variables, namely the process of human capital formation and technological progress, and the biological constraint of finite lifetime expectancy. All these processes affect each other and are endogenously det...
متن کاملImmigration and Production Technology
Research on the labor market impact of immigration typically relies on a single-good model of production with separable capital. This article discusses theory and evidence that suggest that this standard model is too simple to capture the labor market impact of immigration. A reasonable level of capital-skill complementarity, for which there is considerable support outside research on immigrati...
